Lecture Artevelde University College, Ghent, Belgium

Friday, December 10, 2021, I gave an online guest lecture on Inclusive Play for students students of the bachalor ‘Pedagogy of the young child’ at Artevelde Hogeschool in Ghent. Lecturer Helena Sienaert and a number of students sat together in the lecture hall, one student participated online. Despite this mix of live and online, there was plenty of interaction. The stand-up-if-you-say yes-task went well and the chair dance became a mental dance exercise. The students are working on cases about outdoor play in elementary school in Flanders. The last part of the lecture we looked together at the plans for the playgrounds (schoolyards) through the Inclusive Play Glasses. The students saw, for example, that a soccer field could be better situated at the edge of the playground. In this way games are less in the way of each other and there are play corners where children who cannot anticipate flying balls can play their own play safely.
